Taking the Long Way to Roswell

Wednesday, I went and picked up all my stuff at my sister's place. It is amazing how much one can accumulate in a short time. Loaded up the truck and headed west. I figured I could not be this close to Roswell and not get to see it. I was really torn between Roswell and Taos. Roswell won out this time. When I get a spare month will hit up Taos.

The road was flat for the most part and very beautiful, which was tough to capture at 60+mph. The layered look of mountains rising in the distance as I headed out towared the Southwest was stunning. The trip passed meditatively. Watching an undiscovered country unfold out in front of me led to feelings of adventure and anticipation that I have not felt in a very long time. I very much want this sense of wondering and wandering in my life on a regular basis.
Upon getting into town, I checked around for a motel that fit the feel of what I was looking for.
Not a chain. I stay in a lot of chain hotels and wanted a little more flair. Clean. Nothing bothers me worse than spending a night tossing and turning in a sketchy room. I would rather sleep in the truck. Alien themes. The cheesier the better.
I think I found the place at the Western Inn. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Not too expensive, and they had a bunch of wood carvings of aliens and bears out front.
Once I settled in, I pulled up the internet and searched to see what the hours were on the UFO museum, as this was my main objective and see what my options were for coffee in town. Unfortunately, after an hour or so of searching, I found that the only specialty class coffee was about another hour south and closed early, the UFO museum closed in 30 minutes and everthing else listed as desireable in the region was related to the college, which was on spring break.
So, I hit my standby activity. While not strictly related to Roswell, I am a movie fiend and the local theatre was called the Galaxy. I figured this was close enough.
Dinner was a place called Los Cerritos they did a good plate, with a chile, ataco and a tamale. While I was there a family ordered guacamole which they made at the table. I am not a fan of guacamole so I was happy that the family allowed me to record the show at their table. This was about a quarter mile from the hotel, so I walked to and from and enjoyed the weather ( was in the 70s both days I was in town ).
Then I headed to the theatre and watched Oz. Had an interesting conversation with a friendly couple that was behind me in the movie. I am going to  have to test this whole being sociable instead of clamming up at local places to see if I get a sense of connectivity out of it. It was a passable movie. My favorite parts were the cameos by Bruce and Ted. Zach Braff also made a good monkey. After it let out I had a sense of calm settle in  and just a general good feeling of being where I needed to be for the time and nothing pressing. I finished my night at the whataburger. They make a mean green chile burger.
